Rhinoplasty, Chin Liposuction, and More in Maryland, Virginia, and Surrounding Areas

The nose, the ears, and the chin: all of them are prominent features of the face that stand out from the surrounding structures, defining our appearances and making our first impressions before we even say a word. In some cases, they are too prominent; in others, not prominent enough. These features are so noticeable that even slight changes in their shapes and positions can have major effects on the presentation of the face as a whole. Many treatments can bring about these subtle adjustments with long-lasting results; among them are otoplasty (ear surgery), chin liposuction, rhinoplasty, and others. For that reason, more and more patients in Virginia, Maryland, and the entire nation are opting for rhinoplasty and other facial contouring procedures at the Ageless Impressions Plastic Surgery Institute, the cosmetic surgery practice of Dr. Mark E. Richards. To learn about the services offered by this renowned plastic surgeon, please take a moment to look over the information below.

Rhinoplasty

Thanks to its potent power to transform, the stigma implied by the term “nose job” has largely fallen away from the rhinoplasty surgery. His patients in Virginia and its surroundings frequently tell Dr. Richards how gratifying it is that their rhinoplasty has given them a much more pleasing appearance without seeming unnatural or jarring to longtime acquaintances. Those who choose the surgery for functional reasons rather than aesthetic ones are similarly satisfied; for them, a rhinoplasty allows the nasal passages to be reshaped and evened out so that breathing can occur without obstruction.

Rhinoplasty Candidates

Those who feel that their noses are disproportionately large, excessively wide, or even too small for their faces may obtain very pleasing results from a rhinoplasty. In his Virginia area office, Dr. Mark Richards works with such patients to devise a final shape and position for the nose after rhinoplasty, using the nose’s existing structure as a foundation. Even people who once had finely shaped noses find that things can change over time, with the nose developing a round, bulbous shape and a slight hook. In this case, a rhinoplasty — perhaps in conjunction with a cheek lift, microdermabrasion, or BOTOX® treatment — may be just the thing to restore youth to the face. Breathing problems like those mentioned above are usually the result of a crooked, asymmetrical septum (the flap of cartilage that runs down the middle of the nose between the two nostrils). A rhinoplasty can easily and permanently realign the septum so that both nostrils are unobstructed.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The typical rhinoplasty procedure involves just a few small incisions inside the nostril, where scarring will not be visible after the procedure. The bones and cartilage that give the nose its shape are then exposed so that the surgeon may reshape them according to the patient’s wishes. In this effort, the surgeon can when necessary supplement the existing cartilage with tissue taken from elsewhere in the patient’s body or, in rare cases, with a synthetic implant. These techniques, while not used in all cases, significantly broaden the capabilities of the rhinoplasty procedure. Thus, a skilled surgeon making appropriate use of all the available options can transform his patients’ noses in ways many of them never dreamed possible. Nasomaxillary Implants

Occasionally used in conjunction with a rhinoplasty or cheek lift, nasomaxillary implants are a very useful tool in the battle against aging. Age sometimes causes the bone of the upper jaw to recede, allowing the base of the upper lip and the corners of the nostrils to sink further into the face than is aesthetically ideal. Nasomaxillary implants can easily correct this problem. Placed along the upper jaw just beneath the nostrils via minor incisions inside the lip, these small implants will graft with the bone and provide long-lasting support to the area of the face just above the mouth. If you fear that your upper jaw may be receding, please take a moment to contact the Ageless Impressions Plastic Surgery Institute today for more information on how to stop the process.

Chin Enhancement with Liposuction and Implants

As most people age, fat deposits naturally develop in, around, and underneath the chin, giving the face a lumpy, unfit look. Worse, it’s rarely as easy to cover up the chin as it is to conceal other parts of the body when they lose their youthful shape. Fortunately, a number of chin enhancement options are available. Chin liposuction, as practiced at his Maryland clinic by Dr. Mark E. Richards, can remove the fat and sculpt the chin into an attractive, pleasing form. Using the same advanced VASER® LipoSelection® process he applies to liposuction procedures in other parts of the body, Dr. Richards carefully takes the fat out of the neck and jaw area via small, inconspicuous incisions, leaving the chin and jaw lines looking young and fit once more. This high-tech liposuction procedure utilizes ultrasound wave technology to liquefy fat tissue but leave muscles, nerves, and blood vessels unharmed. The result is fine control and minimal pain and bruising after the procedure. These characteristics make chin liposuction a popular choice for those seeking plastic surgery after weight loss as well.

Chin enhancement without liposuction is also possible. One option is chin implants, a type of facial implant treatment. These small, anatomically correctly shaped pads work in similar fashion to breast implants, adding mass and adjusting shape to create a more natural and aesthetically pleasing appearance. Thus, chin implants are an excellent choice for those who have always felt their chins were too recessive, as they can correct the defects in the bone foundation. In order to achieve a balanced look that improves the appearance of the whole face at once, chin implants are often placed at the same time that rhinoplasty is performed. The results are often stunning while remaining smooth and natural. Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Like the nose, the ears can often be too prominent; like rhinoplasty, otoplasty offers people the chance to make their inner visions of themselves a reality. Ear pinning, as otoplasty is more casually known, is an effective and minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedure that can dramatically alter the shape and position of the ears. In most cases, otoplasty is performed by reshaping the cartilage at the crease behind the ear, allowing the rest of the ear structure to rest closer to the head after healing. Ear surgery can also correct the absence of a fold in the upper part of the ear, creating a more conventional and pleasing shape out of existing cartilage.

Those whose ears stick out farther than they would like can get an idea of the possibilities of otoplasty by simply pulling their ears closer to their heads in front of a mirror. As you will see, the improvement in appearance from this simple procedure can be dramatic. To find out if ear surgery is right for you, please contact the Ageless Impressions Plastic Surgery Institute today for a preoperative consultation.
